As a concerned citizen and parent in Visalia, California, I see the urgent need for more safe and fun recreational outlets for our children and families. Our community is grappling with issues of violence and we need to provide alternatives that keep our youth engaged in positive activities. An ice skating rink is not just an answer to this problem but also a fantastic way to beat the intense summer heat characteristic of our desert-like climate.

Ice skating offers numerous health benefits including improving balance, joint flexibility, cardiovascular health and it's an enjoyable way to stay fit. It's also a great opportunity for families to bond while engaging in physical activity together. My own children love ice skating; their joy reflects the potential such an establishment holds for our community.

Our roller rink is nearing its end and we must think about what will replace it - something that can serve us year-round. A permanent ice-skating rink would be a wonderful addition to Visalia's recreational landscape.
