As parents deeply invested in the development of the sport of hockey in our community, we understand the struggle of securing ice time for our youths who are passionate about the sport. This difficulty not only deters participation in the sport but also inhibits the growth of hockey within Southeastern Wake County. Thus, the need to establish an outdoor roller hockey rink, akin to the one recently opened in Apex, NC and sponsored by the Hurricanes, is increasingly urgent. 

With multiple children in our family actively participating, and many others in the community sharing our situation, this rink would provide a much-needed space for practice, games and fostering a love for the game. It's undeniable that outdoor rinks are an accessible and effective method of garnering interest in hockey. The rink in Apex has shown this, proving to be both popular and beneficial.

Despite hockey being a minor sport in North Carolina, there is a growing demand for it. According to USA Hockey, the state has seen an over 300% increase in youth participation since 2000. This new rink could serve as a beacon for this burgeoning community.

We ask the responsible government and private entities to secure a location and resources necessary for this outdoor roller hockey rink. Demonstrating their commitment to sporting opportunities and youth development in Wake County today, we can encourage further growth and love for hockey in future generations.
