As a dog foster for several years, I have seen firsthand the joy that safe and happy environments can bring to animals. However, our local shelter, the Collin County Animal Shelter, is currently past capacity. This overpopulation not only puts stress on the staff and resources but also negatively impacts the well-being of our furry friends who are waiting for their forever homes.

Collin County has seen significant population growth over recent years. According to U.S Census Bureau data, our county's population has increased by nearly 30% from 2010 to 2020. Yet despite this growth, we still rely on one animal shelter that was built when our community was much smaller.

The current situation at the Collin County Animal Shelter is unsustainable and unfair to both animals and staff alike. We need a new facility that can adequately accommodate our growing pet population while providing them with comfortable living conditions until they find their permanent homes.

By establishing a new animal shelter in Collin County, we will be taking an important step towards ensuring all animals in our community are cared for properly while they wait for adoption. Let's give these innocent lives the love and care they deserve.
