Establish a National Animal Database to Protect our Pets

The Issue

I found joy in the innocent eyes of a dog. This dog was gifted to me, and I loved her, nurtured her, and provided all her healthcare needs for over a year. Then, she was abruptly and unjustly stolen from me by the very same people who had given her to me. I sought help from law enforcement, but they refused to intervene. Pets are not mere property, they are sentient beings who deeply impact our lives, and their treatment should reflect this.

This painful experience made me realise that there is an urgent need for a national animal database - a law enforcing the fact that animals are significant to our lives and should be treated with the same importance as humans.

RSPCA reports that 300,000 pets are reported stolen each year in the UK (source: RSPCA). In view of the emotions we invest in pets and the positive influence they have on our mental health, this number cannot be taken lightly. A national animal database could enforce greater accountability in pet ownership and tracking, thus reducing the number of these heartbreaking incidents.

This petition seeks lawmakers' attention to establish a national animal database that can help track our beloved pets and prevent situations like mine from happening. Let us work together to ensure that pets are recognised for their importance in our lives. Sign this petition and help protect our furry friends. Together we can make a difference.
