Establish a municipal veterinary clinic in Coron, Philippines

The Issue

Every day, animals in Coron and Busuanga are suffering. Dogs, cats, and other animals are left injured, sick, or in pain. Families who love their pets often face the heartbreaking reality of watching them suffer or die because there is no reliable veterinary care in the municipality. Strays roam the streets, hungry, sick, or hurt, with no one to help them.

Currently, Coron & Busuanga relies on a private veterinarian who is often unavailable, leaving animals and families without access to emergency or consistent care. For more serious cases, people must travel all the way to Puerto Princesa—a long, expensive, and stressful journey that is impossible during urgent situations.

In many other municipalities across the Philippines, municipal veterinarians provide essential services in the interest of the animals, including:

 • Humane treatment and medical care for all animals, both pets and strays

 • Affordable, regulated veterinary services for families, pet owners and animal lovers

 • Low-cost spay and neuter programs to prevent suffering and disease

 • Support for public health and compliance with national animal welfare laws (RA 8485 as amended by RA 10631 and RA 9482)

The need for a municipal veterinary clinic in Coron is not just a matter of convenience; it is essential for promoting animal welfare, controlling zoonotic diseases, and ensuring the wellbeing of the community. Establishing a clinic will provide affordable and professional veterinary services, including vaccinations, neutering, spaying, and emergency care. This facility can also become a center for educating the public about responsible pet ownership and animal care.

I urge the LGU and MAO to prioritize the creation of a Municipal Veterinary Clinic for Coron and Busuanga, so that no animal—pet or stray—has to suffer alone, and every animal can receive the care, protection, and compassion they deserve.
