Establish a Mountain Biking Team at Brigham Young University

The Issue

As a passionate mountain biker who has continued to race competitively since graduating from high school in 2019, I have witnessed firsthand the gap that exists for young athletes after high school. The support and community that fostered our growth during our high school years often dissipate, leaving many talented riders without the means or motivation to continue racing.

High School Mountain Bike Racing has had an enormous impact on youth in Utah. It not only promotes physical fitness but also instills values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. However, there is currently no bridge between this impactful sport at the high school level and subsequent stages of life.

This is where Brigham Young University (BYU) comes into play. BYU has always been a hub for nurturing talent and promoting sportsmanship among its students. Yet it lacks a mountain biking team - an omission that leaves many potential athletes without an avenue to pursue their passion post-high school.

Creating such a team would provide continuity for these young athletes and offer them opportunities to continue racing competitively while pursuing their academic goals. Moreover, it would make racing more affordable by providing institutional support.

The establishment of a mountain biking team at BYU could serve as an example for other colleges across Utah and even nationwide, potentially leading to increased participation in this life-changing sport beyond high school.

Let's ensure talented riders don't have to give up their passion due to lack of support or resources after graduation. Sign this petition today urging Brigham Young University to establish its own mountain biking team.
