The Issue

Growing up in West Babylon, New York, I've seen the immense pressure that students face daily. Whether it's academic performance, social expectations, or personal challenges, mental health is an often overlooked yet crucial aspect of our well-being. During my time at West Babylon Senior High School, I have encountered peers who feel isolated, misunderstood, and overwhelmed. Having experienced the chaos of juggling studies with personal struggles myself, I know firsthand how such a difficult balancing act can take a toll on one's mental health.

I propose the establishment of a mental health awareness and support club at West Babylon Senior High School. Such a club would serve as a safe space where students could find peace without judgment, learn healthy coping strategies, and share resources and help themselves and others. The club would raise money for different organizations, do soothing activities (yoga, crafts, etc.) and distributing resources to those in need. We want to acknowledge mental health issues and break the stigma.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly one in five teenagers ages 13-18 in the United States suffers from at least one mental health disorder. This statistic is alarming and highlights the urgent need for us to come together.

Please sign this petition to urge the administration of West Babylon Senior High School to recognize the importance of mental health and help make this vital project a reality. It's time to prioritize the well-being of students by fostering a community where they feel safe, supported, and understood.
