Establish a Legitimate Homeless Shelter in Manchester, Connecticut

The Issue

As a previous resident of Manchester, Connecticut, and having experienced homelessness, I've seen firsthand the urgent demand for a worthy homeless shelter. Sadly, in recent years, the local homeless shelter has closed its doors. Despite this closure, funds continue to be directed towards temporary solutions such as motel room rentals for a select few, an approach that is not feasible, efficient, nor inclusive for all.

The need to provide shelter for our homeless population is imperative. According to the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness, in 2020 alone there was a notable increase in homeless individuals across the state. Yet, services and shelters have not adapted to meet the rising demand.

Reallocating the funds currently spent on temporary motel stays towards a comprehensive, all-inclusive homeless shelter in Manchester, Connecticut would be a much more resourceful and holistic solution to addressing homelessness in our community. Providing a safe, permanent facility will not only support immediate needs but also create a foundation for individuals to rebuild their lives.

This issue is personal for me and thousands like me who have grappled with homelessness in our area. The current approach is not only discriminatory but also unsustainable and economically inefficient. It's time for a change.

We need to advocate for a better system. A legitimate homeless shelter in Manchester, Connecticut, would be a step towards acknowledging and addressing homelessness in our community. Please sign this petition urging local authorities to stop the inequitable distribution of resources and support the establishment of a worthy homeless shelter. Your support could change lives.
