My name is Dori Booker and I am an aspiring Sports Management student at North Carolina State University, with a profound passion for hockey. However, my enthusiasm is dampened by the fact that our esteemed institution currently lacks a hockey team. This absence not only limits opportunities for students like me who wish to engage in this sport but also hinders the university's potential to excel in another field of athletics.

I have liked hockey for a while now and my dream is to work with hockey in some way in the future. For my major I have chosen Sports Management. I would like to work with a school sports team from North Carolina State University, however the school does not have a hockey team. I started this petition so myself and others would be able to show our school spirit and further our horizon of sports in the area. There is a National Hockey League team in Raleigh, whose arena is used by the school for basketball. This arena and this town is meant for hockey and I truly believe that the school would genuinely benefit from having a hockey team within it. 

North Carolina State University has always been known for its strong athletic programs and vibrant sports culture. Yet, despite the popularity of hockey across the United States, with over 562,145 registered players in 2018-19 according to USA Hockey’s annual report, our university remains without representation in this sport.

The establishment of a hockey team would not only provide new opportunities for students but could also contribute positively to our community spirit and school pride. Furthermore, it could open doors for potential scholarships and funding that are tied specifically to collegiate level ice hockey.

We urge North Carolina State University officials and relevant stakeholders to consider this proposal seriously. Let us broaden our athletic horizons and give passionate students like myself an opportunity to pursue their chosen sport right here on campus.
