The Hindu community in Bendigo has grown significantly over the years, contributing to the city’s vibrant cultural diversity. However, unlike many other communities, Hindu Society Bendigo (HSB) currently lacks a dedicated space for cultural celebrations, community gatherings, and spiritual practices. This absence limits opportunities for sharing our traditions and fostering connections within the broader Bendigo community.

According to the 2021 Australian Census, Hinduism is one of the fastest-growing religions in the country, with 684,002 individuals identifying as Hindu, representing 2.7% of the national population. In Victoria, the Hindu community continues to grow, adding to the state’s rich multicultural fabric. Despite this, Bendigo—a major regional centre—does not yet have a permanent space to support the needs of its expanding Hindu community.

We believe that establishing a Hindu Temple in Bendigo will not only provide a space for spiritual and cultural activities but also serve as a welcoming community hub for people from all backgrounds in central Victoria. This inclusive space will celebrate diversity, encourage cross-cultural understanding, and strengthen the bonds within our community.
