Growing up in Lawrence, Massachusetts, football has always been more than just a sport for me – it’s a passion. Unfortunately, my love for the game is hindered by a lack of opportunities to play in a comfortable environment. Like many girls at Lawrence High School, I wish for a space where we can indulge in flag football without the discomfort of interacting with the opposite gender, due to both physical and emotional concerns.

Football is not just a boys' game. Across the country, girls are excelling in the sport and leading their teams to victories. The growth of girls' flag football is undeniable, with more schools introducing teams every year. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, there has been a 15% annual increase in participation in girls’ flag football, proving that there is a demand and interest for it.

It is crucial for Lawrence High School to recognize this demand. Establishing a girls' flag football team would not only promote inclusivity and gender equality in sports but also provide a platform for girls to showcase their talents. In addition, it would encourage leadership, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle among young women at our school.
