The Issue

Please share/foward this petition to friends and family! We need many more for Virginia State Department to notice us!

As students in Virginia, we cherish the time we spend with our families during the Thanksgiving holiday. Many of us enjoy baking, cooking, celebrating traditions, or simply hanging out with our loved ones. However, the current school schedule only allows us a few days off for this important holiday.

This limited time off does not provide enough opportunity for family bonding and tradition that is very important to America. According to a study by the American Psychological Association (APA), spending quality time with family can significantly improve mental health and overall well-being among students.

In addition to this, having a full week off would align Virginia schools more closely with other states. For instance, California public schools typically give their students an entire week off for Thanksgiving (California Department of Education). This not only allows ample time for celebrations but also provides a much-needed break from academic pressures (VGAs, iREADYs)

We believe that extending the Thanksgiving break to a full week in Virginia schools will enhance student happiness and well-being while promoting familial bonds and cultural traditions. Therefore, we urge you to consider our request seriously.

Please sign this petition if you support establishing a full week off for Thanksgiving in all Virginia schools!
