Every pet owner in Iloilo City knows the deep joy and companionship that animals bring to our homes. They are family members. However, when a beloved pet passes away, Ilonggo families face a painful dilemma.Currently, Iloilo City lacks a public pet cemetery or crematorium. Because of this, residents are often forced to resort to shallow backyard burials—which pose serious risks to our neighborhood water tables—or improper disposal in public waste systems and our local waterways. This is neither safe for public sanitation nor respectful to the animals we loved.As a highly progressive and humane city that champions animal welfare through local legislation, it is time for Iloilo City to establish an official, LGU-led public pet cemetery.A dedicated resting place for companion animals will:

Protect Public Health: Keep decomposing remains away from residential areas and groundwater systems.

Promote Responsible Pet Ownership: Align with the city's active animal welfare programs by providing a legal, safe way to handle pet demises.

Show Compassion: Give grieving citizens a comforting, dignified space to honor their pets' memories.
