I am a proud resident and dog owner in Cavan town. Our dogs are not just pets, but are members of our families. They offer us emotional support, companionship and unconditional love. Like humans, they too need a place to play, exercise and socialise.

However, our town is lacking in this respect. The nearest dog park is in Carrickmacross, making it inconvenient for our furry friends and us to frequently visit. Having a dedicated dog park in Cavan would reduce this challenge and provide a much-needed communal space for our community of dog-lovers.

A dog park would also enhance the safety of our dogs and local community. Being a fenced-off area designed for dogs to play freely, it substantially reduces the risk of dogs running away or onto roads. The installation of designated waste bins in this area would also address the issue of dog foul on public paths and green areas, promoting a cleaner and healthier environment for all.

Dog parks are already proven beneficial additions to communities worldwide. For example, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, dog parks can tremendously improve a dog’s physical health and temperament due to regular exercise and socialisation.
