As a resident of central Delaware, I am acutely aware of the struggle we face in accessing convenient shopping options. Despite being a small state, the majority of our shopping centers are concentrated in northern Delaware. This not only creates an unnecessary travel burden for families and individuals residing in other parts of the state but also undermines our progress towards becoming a more modern and interconnected community.

Central Delaware, with its growing communities, is vibrant and diverse, yet we are consistently forced to drive substantial distances just to shop for essential goods. This issue is exacerbated by our limited public transportation options, making it difficult for many to fulfill basic needs without undue hardship. Our residents deserve better.

The opening of a Costco and other retail outlets in central Delaware would not only provide us with greater convenience but also bolster the local economy by creating jobs and attracting further investment. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, retail establishments can support hundreds of jobs per location, which could have a significant positive impact on our community's employment rates. Moreover, access to a Costco would provide consumers with more choices and competitive pricing, alleviating some of the financial pressures faced by many families.

The evolution of communities beyond traditional rural settings demands infrastructure that supports growth and convenience. It's time for decision-makers to acknowledge this shift. We must move forward with the times, ensuring our state's infrastructure aligns with the needs of all its residents.

I urge those in power to consider the long-term benefits for our region and its people. By expanding shopping facilities such as a new Costco store in central Delaware, we can create a more equitable distribution of resources and opportunities across our beloved state.
