As a small business owner and an avid ice skater who has lived in Astoria for over 25 years, I am passionate about bringing an ice rink to our beloved Astoria Park. The lack of winter activities in our cherished green space leaves a void for families, tourists, and local businesses during the colder months. With the breathtaking views of the East River, bridges, and Manhattan as the backdrop, it's the perfect spot to foster community spirit, provide outdoor activities during the chilly months, invite tourists and enhance local business revenue.

Currently, the closest ice rinks are in Manhattan and there is only one rink in Queens (Flushing Meadows). By introducing an ice rink in Astoria Park, we bring leisure activities to our doorstep, accessible for all to enjoy. The installation will not only transform our park into a year-round hub of activity but also drive economic growth by attracting tourists and residents. I envision a local market not unlike the Holiday Village in Bryant Park.

An ice rink in Astoria Park holds the potential to become a community staple, providing a healthy and enjoyable activity for residents of all ages. Skating supports mental and physical well-being, especially during the long, dark winters.

Together with Old Astoria Neighborhood Association, I call upon the NYC Park Department and local and state officials to consider this proposal. Let's work together to bring this dream to fruition! Together we can enrich our community, provide outdoor activities for families in the hard winter months, and inject an economic stimulus for local businesses.
