Establish a Banking Hub with a Post Office Counter in Wigtown, Newton Stewart

Establish a Banking Hub with a Post Office Counter in Wigtown, Newton Stewart

The Issue

I am a business owner in Wigtown, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland's National Booktown. This beautiful and historic town has been deeply impacted by the closure of our local post office counter. The loss has not only affected our ability to send and receive mail efficiently but has also disrupted essential services that were previously accessible through the post office such as banking. This is being further impacted by the decision of the Bank of Scotland to remove their mobile banking facility in May 2024 leaving Wigtown with no premises in the town where residents and visitors can access postal and banking facilities.

Wigtown has a rich history and a strong community but is now struggling due to this significant change. The absence of these facilities is causing inconvenience to all residents, particularly the elderly who rely on these services for their daily needs.

Therefore, we call upon relevant businesses - Post Office Counters Ltd responsible for postal services across the UK; and Bank of Scotland and LINK to reinstate a fully functional Post Office counter in Wigtown and introduce a Banking Hub that will serve our community's needs effectively.

We believe that these changes will significantly improve quality of life for residents while boosting economic activity within Wigtown. Please sign this petition if you support this cause!
