We continue to campaign to save our much loved Boxted Bridge from demolition and to request that Essex County Council provide an independent impartial review of options to repair and strengthen the bridge, as part of a genuine and transparent consultation process, alongside their preferred option to replace the bridge on a widened footprint. To simply declare that 'Boxted Bridge has been deemed unviable for repair, and it would be uneconomical to do so' is not a satisfactory statement without full impartial evidence to support Essex Highways decision to proceed with the unrecommended option 7B made at an unminuted meeting as revealed in a recent F.O.I. request; this is especially important since in the 2018 Principal Bridge Inspection Report the estimate for the highlighted recommended bridge repairs was £122,000 compared to the cost in the 2018 Options Study for the not recommended replacement bridge option, estimate £900,000-£1 million. Current 2021 costs of bridge replacement have not been provided yet nor a value for money cost benefit analysis.
