The Ipswich Journal, and Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire Advertiser, Saturday May 12th 1900 announced that 'The report of the Joint Sub-committee of the East Suffolk and Essex County Council, upon the building of Dedham Mill Bridge, stating that the tender of Mr. George Double, Ipswich, for £1865, had been accepted, and that the work had to be completed within six months, was adopted.'
This is the third bridge that we know of to date built by George Double on the River Stour. Alas, Dedham Mill Bridge was replaced in 1974 with a concrete one - we must not let this happen to Boxted bridge!
