AN EXCITING DISCOVERY!

New information on George Double (1840-1916), the builder of Boxted bridge, has brought to light another project he worked on with John Dixon (1835-1891), the brilliant contractor and engineer who masterminded the transportation of Cleopatra’s Needle from Egypt to London in an iron cylinder. The year before, in 1877, George Double was his site manager during the construction of the splendid pier, now grade 2 listed, at Llandudno, North Wales.
