Mayoral Probe Into The New York City Animal Care Centers (ACC) Financial Mismanagement

The Issue

The New York City Animal Care Centers (NYCACC) provides shelter and boarding for animals, primarily dogs and cats, who are either strays, or surrendered to their facilities by pet owners who can no longer care for them. In 2015, NYCACC intake was 29,211, and many of those animals were euthanized, because they could not find homes.

The New York City shelter system in particular has been given millions by Maddies Fund, yet still, they are euthanizing dogs at a rate higher than cities of its comparable size. Even on Christmas.

We are asking that Mayor Bill De Blasio open an internal probe of the NYCACC's finances to see how they are applying grant money earmarked for hard to adopt animals in their shelter system. No dog should be euthanized just because they can't find homes. Precious pups are dying everyday on their watch, and it is time for reform to prevent further loss of life.
