All Students should receive a laptop and free WiFi to complete the school year

All Students should receive a laptop and free WiFi to complete the school year
The Issue
COVID-19 has affected us all and changed our way of life. One specific group in particular that has been upended by the effects of COVID-19 is our Students. In response to the pandemic Governor Holcomb shut down schools through the remainder of the school year, but instruction is still ongoing. Schools around Indianapolis have done an incredible job of quickly responding and establishing e-Learning curriculum, but the concept of e-Learning creates a problem for those students who face socioeconomic challenges and do not have access to the proper technology. More than 80 percent of IPS students qualify for free or reduced price meals at school. These families are now faced with the challenge of securing a healthy meal while also looking for ways to facilitate their child’s education without access to a laptop and/or internet access. Studies show that students lost 20-27% of there gains over the summer. No access to the technology needed during this time will compound those numbers.
Sign this petition and help us we fight to ensure that Indianapolis’s children have access to the technology needed to continue growing academically. Sign this petition to help fight and decrease the achievement gaps associated with inner city schools. Sign this petition to ensure that ALL STUDENTS are adequately served in this time of need.
