The California Teacher's Association (CTA) should endorse Bernie Sanders for president.

The California Teacher's Association (CTA) should endorse Bernie Sanders for president.

The Issue

In the summer/fall of 2015, both the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association voted to support Hillary Clinton for president in the primary election.  Perhaps something you should know—that, like me, you probably didn’t know—is that both presidents of these two organizations—Randi Wiengarten and Lily Eskelsen Garcia—are both super delegates who have pledged to support Hillary Clinton regardless of what voters choose.  The political influence that these two union presidents have as super delegates demonstrates a serious  conflict of interest when pledging the support of their respective organizations to a candidate for whom they can ultimately help sway an election, regardless of what their members, or even the voters, would like to see. Therefore, I am urging you to email, call, pester, or otherwise ask Eric Heins, the president of the California Teachers Association, and any of his board members to officially endorse Bernie Sanders for president in the upcoming California primary. Senator Sanders has the momentum and the grassroots base to win this election.  If CTA should support his candidacy outright, he would likely win California and demonstrate that he is a serious contender for President of the United States. The media could no longer ignore him, and the Democratic Party would have to give his campaign serious consideration.  Your support could make California a battleground for the democratic nomination. Encourage CTA to support Bernie Sanders in the California Primary by sharing this petition with a teacher today.  Make California matter in this contest. Don’t let the establishment push us around.
