Yesterday, the final La Gloria Foods appeals hearing took place and we are pleased to announce that the City of Los Angeles Public Works Appeals Board gave us a fair outcome. La Gloria and the entire Behar family would like to thank each of you for your signatures and support. Your signatures mattered. Our collective voice made a difference! An enormous thanks to Gustavo Arellano of the Los Angeles Times whose article brought our struggle to light, and had the largest positive influence on our case. In these current times when the media is constantly being bashed, we feel it is important to highlight how significant it still is as an agent of change and accountability. We’d also like to thank all the community members who called in to the hearing and voiced their support for La Gloria, which amounted to nearly 2 hours of public comment on the matter. Finally, thank you to Board Commissioners Aura Garcia, Teresa Villegas, and Mike Davis. We appreciate all of the time you spent working to ensure that La Gloria was treated justly. We felt your respect for our business and for our Boyle Heights community. The same could NOT be said for our District 14 council member Kevin De Leon.
