Why this petition matters

I recently started up a Billy Martin fan page on Facebook. The group feels strongly that Billy Martin deserves to be placed in the Baseball Hall of Fame as Manager. Billy has turned around four losing clubs and turned them into winners, has taken the Yankees to the World Series twice in '76 and '77, winning it all in '77 and his winning percentage of .553 ranks up there with managers already accepted into the Hall. Mr Martin has won 1253 games in his 19 years as manager and only two other managers have taken four teams to the postseason. Mr Martin has won the Associated Press Manager of the Year Award four times, in '74, '76, '80 and '81. In 1981 he took the Oakland A's to the playoffs winning the AL West. He also gave birth to what is known throughout the baseball world as Billy Ball and graced the cover of Time Magazine in 1981. Quite an achievement. We feel strongly that Mr Martin is being left out of your organization because of the off the field negativity that has been following him up until his tragic death in '89. If this is true it would be a travesty since Mr Martin is considered one of the greatest field generals in baseball history, was the proudest Yankee to wear the pinstripes and respected the game of baseball like no other. We kindly ask you to vote Billy Martin into the Baseball Hall of Fame where he rightfully belongs.
