I am a resident of Toronto, and I have witnessed the devastating impact of drunk driving firsthand. Near my home, a life was tragically lost to a drunk driver. This incident is not isolated; it's part of an alarming trend that we need to address urgently.

According to MADD Canada, on average, approximately 4 Canadians are killed each day due to impaired driving (MADD Canada). In Ontario alone, one person is injured in a drinking-driving incident every hour (Ontario Ministry of Transportation). These statistics highlight the severity and urgency of this issue.

We must demand stricter laws and enforcement against drunk driving in our city. We need increased police patrols during peak hours, more sobriety checkpoints throughout the city, and harsher penalties for those found guilty of drunk driving.

Let's make our streets safer for everyone - pedestrians, cyclists and motorists alike. Together we can work towards eradicating drunk driving from Toronto once and for all.
