ER Care for All Pets

ER Care for All Pets
The Issue
Every life deserves emergency care. Small and exotic pets, though they may not fit into the traditional mold of common domestic companions, hold just as significant a place in the hearts of their owners. Our mission is to give a voice to these countless small and exotic pets who are often denied treatment in emergencies due to the shortage of veterinary emergency rooms (ERs) equipped to care for them.
The root of this problem lies in the limited education and training opportunities available for veterinary professionals in the area of small and exotic animals. Many veterinary students graduate with minimal exposure to these species, despite the growing number of households opting for rabbits, birds, reptiles, and other unique pets. This gap in training leads to a stark scarcity of hospitals prepared to offer life-saving care when it's needed most.
Our goal is to change this reality.
We urge veterinary schools and universities to broaden their curriculum, providing specialized coursework that covers the needs of small and exotic animals. Such initiatives not only increase the competence of future veterinarians but also inspire more emergency hospitals to open their doors to these little ones.
If universities and veterinary ERs act now to expand their services and training options, we can ensure that every pet, regardless of size or species, receives the care they need when their health is at risk.
By signing this petition, you are advocating for a future where compassion and appropriate care are available to all animals in times of emergency. Please join us in urging these institutions to take action and bridge this critical gap. Sign the petition today and be the change these innocent lives desperately need.
