Equity for All

The Issue

My name is Krish Gidwaney, and as a freshman in civil engineering, I am inspired to create meaningful change at our university. At age 16, my family and I faced near-homelessness due to corporate exploitation, and I personally experienced police brutality, which shattered my sense of safety. Around the same time, my transgender best friend was attacked at high school—a hateful act that highlighted the urgent need for justice and equity. These experiences revealed systemic injustices that prioritize profit and power over people, fueling my determination to fight for change. At CSUF, I see want to promote innovation, inclusivity, and equity. I aim to promote LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC rights by advocating for anti-discrimination policies, comprehensive support systems, as well as platforms for marginalized voices to thrive. I also plan to support initiatives that enhance accessibility and create a campus where everyone feels valued and heard. Together, we can transform Cal State Fullerton into a model of progress and inclusion. Let’s build a legacy that reflects our shared values.

[12:52 AM]At CSUF, I propose the following policies to amplify innovation, inclusivity, and equity: First, I advocate for cracking down on Campus Police Brutality through meticulous reforms. This includes mandating bias training, establishing student oversight committees to handle misconduct complaints, and ensuring transparency in all campus policing practices. Students deserve to feel safe and respected on their campus. Second, I propose Elevating LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC Visibility by holding the LGBTQIA+ pride flag alongside the American flag, symbolizing our commitment to inclusivity. Furthermore, I support reevaluating the existence of symbols like the American flag if they conflict with the values of justice and equity, to foster a campus culture that truly reflects our diverse community. Third, I aim to significantly expand Accessibility Initiatives to address financial barriers and support students' welfare. Many students at CSUF struggle to afford tuition, housing, and basic necessities, which can hinder their academic success. To combat this, I propose increasing financial aid opportunities and creating more scholarships tailored for low-income and first-generation students. Specifically, I will advocate for financial aid programs that prioritize marginalized groups, such as BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ students, recognizing the unique challenges they face. Additionally, I will push for emergency financial aid programs, on-campus affordable food options, subsidies for essential materials such as textbooks and technology, and monthly stipends to help students cover basic living expenses. These measures will ensure that no student has to choose between education and survival.

[12:52 AM]Fourth, I propose Enhancing Campus Innovation by expanding and modernizing the student union building. This includes creating a more extensive food court with diverse dining options and extending operating hours from 7 a.m. to midnight to better serve students. Additionally, I will advocate for partnerships with nearby businesses to allow Titan Card validation, giving students access to discounts and benefits while supporting the local community. Moreover, I will collaborate with subcontractors like Sundt and Keller to triple the on-campus housing capacity, ensuring that more students have access to affordable, convenient living options. Furthermore, I will work to implement more extensive shuttle routes for students who cannot drive, with full wheelchair and bike accessibility, ensuring equitable access to transportation across campus. Finally, I propose the creation of Student Leadership Platforms to amplify marginalized voices. Advisory boards and regular town halls will empower students to directly influence university decisions and foster a culture of collaboration and equity.
