This is a cause close to my heart. My partner Tony had to have his voice box removed due to cancer. It is lifesaving but also life changing surgery. This is called a laryngectomy. When we breathe our nose filters and moistens the air to assist our lungs. When your voice box is removed you can no longer do this and therefore, you breathe through a hole (stoma) in your throat.  Survivors use a "bib" which is a mesh type material that ties around their neck. To filter & moisten their breath they continually spray this bib with water. If their breath is not properly moistened, they will continually cough.  Those that have had a Laryngectomy are called "Larrys".

We are calling on the SA GOVERNMENT to fund small devices called HME's to SA Larrys. These take the place of a bib and give a Larry a better quality of life. Some cannot work, go to the cinema or ride a bike. Yet all other STATES IN AUSTRALIA fund them for their Larrys. We are asking for EQUALITY for our Larrys. JULY IS HEAD AND NECK CANCER AWARNESS MONTH..IF NOT NOW THEN WHEN!!!!
