Salam mumineen,
I wanted to give a quick thank you to those of you who have already signed and shared this petition, and those who paid out of their pocket to donate and promote this cause, I would refund you if I knew how to.
Alhamdulilah we had a productive meeting with the Muslim student advisors and members of the Leeds Isoc committee regarding the Green Room. We have been told that as custodianship of the Green Room is a contractual agreement going back well over 15 years it is a long and tedious process which could take years to ratify and add Leeds ABsoc into this contract, but that they will be looking into it and will be chasing this matter up for us.
We are humbly asking those of you who haven’t yet signed or shared to please do so and keep up pressure so that the future members can use this space well inshallah and to show that there is indeed demand and need for Leeds ABsoc’s usage and custodianship of these spaces:

Custodianship goes well above simply holding events in these spaces, it also means being responsible for all changes and maintenance with the space, and having these equal shared responsibilities alongside Isoc will bring the two societies closer inshallah as we will be working on the same issues in the future. I have personally seen many new faces praying with Turbahs in these spaces who I have never even seen in any ABsoc event, which puts into perspective that we have a duty beyond simply hosting events and that is to allow mumineen to feel welcome in all spaces in the University of Leeds.
To the future Leeds ABsoc committees and members I ask you to please, please, please keep this demand up for equal responsibility and custodianship of the green room. It is our haqq and we shouldn’t have to relegate our events to Baines Wing when events aren’t approved to be held in the space.
Jazakallah Khairan,
Walsalam
