Another confirmed case of Instacart stealing tips
(this is a post from REDDIT)
So, my wife and I have a regular customer who always tips 20%. He usually places 2 orders at both Raley's and Sprouts around the same time (the stores are right next to each other). Once in a while they get grouped together as a double store batch to a single house. The majority of other times though, it gets grouped with lower-tipping customers in a double or triple of that same store.
Today I picked up a double from Raley's, looking at the map ahead of time and identifying that he was Customer A. The second customer was far away and only ordered a few items. I knew the majority of the tip would come from our regular, so I dropped B. While I was shopping it, my wife sees a double from Sprouts, with Customer A also being our regular. However, the total tip was only $9, the second customer was far, and there were so many items in the batch. She passed on it. Later, since no one would take it, it gets grouped with another customer (still a double), but the total tip was only about $4, with still many items. She didn't take it either. We got some screenshots of it, and finally when I was pulling up to the customer's house, someone else took that Sprouts double.
As he opened the door, I asked him if he had placed a Sprouts order too. He said yes, but he found it surprising that it didn't get picked up for so long, as usually his orders are picked up within minutes. I showed him the screenshots of his order getting grouped with others, and I showed him the total tip. He knew it was his order, but he showed me his side of it. His order was around a total of $150 and he had tipped around $30.
So essentially, Instacart made him a no-tipper, still combined him with a low-tipper, and pocketed his tip of $30 while screwing over the shopper who eventually took it, as well as screwing over the regular customer as he gets a lower quality service from the shopper who would take a batch like that. Shopper and customer loses. Instacart fattens their pocket in preparation of their IPO...
This is something very common with Instacart. Cutting corners at the expense of its base level workers.
To add to this because I am local and not a part of this post. In the last two weeks I have caught Instacart changing my tip after delivery and skimming on mileage. The mileage order specifically was listed at 33.6 ml and It actually was 46.22. I now have to screenshot every order and check the amount of pay verses the mileage of the order.
