The proposed EPFO ceiling change could benefit millions of Indians. The objective is welcome.

But timing matters.

Introducing a significant payroll change on 17 September, in the middle of a month, can create pressure.

Employees may suddenly face higher salary deductions without adequate time to plan.

Employers and payroll teams may have to make significant changes to salary structures, systems and processes — with very little preparation time.

This is not about opposing the reform.
It is about getting the timing right.

Why not introduce it from 1 January 2027 or, ideally, 1 April 2027, when the new financial year begins?

That gives employees, employers and the entire payroll ecosystem time to prepare.

A good reform should not become a sudden burden.

I request the Government of India and EPFO to keep the reform, but reconsider the implementation date.

Let’s make the change.
But let’s make it at the right time.
