STOP LARRY GOODMAN UNNECESSARILY POLLUTING LAND IN COUNTIES KILKENNY AND WATERFORD

The Issue

People in South Kilkenny and parts of Waterford have been complaining about the stench emanating from the RENDERING PLANT in Christendom, Ferrybank for years.  (This facility is under the jurisdiction of County Kilkenny)

This is TOTALLY UNNECESSARY.   In 2005, the sewerage treatment plant at Bellview was installed and had/has capacity to take the effluent from the DAF sewerage system attached to the rendering plant.  The South Kilkenny/Waterford waste disposal system comes under the river, UNDER THE BONING HALL OF THE ABATTOIR and down to the plant at Bellview.

LARRY GOODMAN was asked by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), Waterford City Council and Kilkenny County Council to use the ducting, but he refused on the grounds of cost.  I have all the letters.

Larry Goodman’s rendering plant takes ‘fallen’ animals from all over the country..  These are animals that have failed tuberculosis, brucellosis tests, and sometimes animals with scrapy (sheep), and BVT (Bovine viral diarrhoea).  Some of these are zoonotic diseases, so their meat is unfit for human consumption, hence, straight to the rendering plant.

Remains of rendering goes to their private sewerage plant.  It is treated by oxygenation, the liquids go to the river, and solids are put into muck-spreaders and spread over the land.  (Maps can be obtained on EPA website).

An EIS (Environmental Impact Study) is necessary for this facility.  None was asked for by the statutory bodies.  However, a letter from the EPA of the 30th October 2014, reference number POO40-02/gc83ac states that indeed, one is required, to obtain an integrated pollution control licence.

In my opinion, Waterford has suffered enough at the hands of this plutocrat, and despite his peoples’s best efforts, accidents and mishaps occur on too regular a basis for it to be allowed to continue.   Especially, as it TOTALLY UNNECESSARY.

NO JOBS NEED BE LOST.

These facilities are self-regulated.

This unnecessary process should be brought to an end! If you agree, please sign the petition and share this with everyone you know.
