Hi it’s Leo.

Thank you for signing the petition to rebut SB 389 —Together we have 29,700+ signatures! But, we still need to act! And thankfully, there is still time to act and to save Indiana’s wetlands. The House Environmental Affairs Committee heard testimony on SB 389 March 22, 2021 however, will not vote until Monday, April 5. Please consider sharing this petition and calling House Representatives and House Environmental Affairs Committee.

Thank you,

Leo Berry

Update: The House Environmental Affairs Committee heard testimony on SB 389 March 22, 2021 however, will not vote until April 5.

TAKE ACTION: Please urge the following three Indiana House leaders to:
--Oppose SB 389 as it passed out of the Senate
--Oppose any House amendments to SB 389 that would jeopardize state-protected wetlands

Call or email:

Representative Doug Gutwein, Chair of House Environmental Affairs, h16@iga.in.gov
Representative Matt Lehman, Majority Floor Leader, h79@iga.in.gov
Representative Todd Huston, Speaker of the House, h37@iga.in.gov

If your state representative is a member of the House Environmental Affairs Committee, please also reach that lawmaker with the above two messages.

A message from Hoosier Environmental Council:

The House Environmental Affairs Committee heard testimony on SB 389 March 22, 2021 but will not vote until April 5. We have heard that another revision of the bill is underway.

Unfortunately, the negotiations have been a closed process. There are policy options offered by wetland advocates that have not been part of the negotiation, yet. HEC and our allies are encouraging the committee and the bill's sponsor to consider options like ways to simplify wetland permitting, clarify exemptions, incentivize preservation of existing wetlands, and create a Wetland Task Force that can continue to evaluate how our wetland policy functions.

Wetlands are vital to a healthy ecosystem and need protection because they a.) provide wildlife habitat, b.) absorb large quantities of water which reduces flood risk, and c.) purify water.
