A Message From Leo:

Senator J.D. Ford telephoned me yesterday to personally give thanks for this petition! Senator Ford has openly opposed SB 389 from the beginning and I am grateful for his leadership! He shared a message I am honored to pass on to you:

Everyone’s voice matters!

Senator Ford encourages everyone to call their representatives and voice their opinion and opposition of this bill. For each constituent to individually take action by calling is important and does make a difference!

Thank you Senator J.D. Ford for the encouragement and leadership! I agree! Each of us, big or small— our voice matters!

It’s not too late— to pick up the phone and make a phone call today!

And, together we have just passed 26,668 signatures on our petition! Will you help me to get more support by sharing this petition with ten other people? Link to share: https://www.change.org/p/environmental-protection-agency-save-the-wetlands-reject-indiana-sb-389

Because of you our voices are being heard! Articles about OUR petition!

“When I read this, I felt mad and worried. I sit here and think: Why is it that this world we live in is so driven by outcomes that do not always work in favor of nature?” — Leo Berry

“Nature can’t talk so I am trying to be the voice for nature.”— Leo Berry

Indiana lawmakers want to strip protections for wetlands. This 11-year-old wants to stop them.

“When we heard about it we felt kind of repulsed and disgusted,” Berry said, referencing first hearing about the bill while with his friend. “Wetlands are vital to our life ... By using my voice, I can stop something like this.”

  Good News!!! ⬇️

From Hoosier Environmental Council:

Update: (3/19/21): Amendment 11, which we strongly opposed, will not be advanced in Committee on 3/22/21. Amendment 12 (which we have not seen) will be offered instead; it is apparently a compromise between the legislative authors of SB 389 and IDEM (which is opposed to the Senate version of SB 389).

**House leaders must still hear from you!**

Please urge House leaders (contact details below) to a.) oppose #SB389 as passed out of Senate and b.) oppose any House amendments that would jeopardize state-protected wetlands!

Thank you so much for taking action!

A message from Hoosier Action:

My name is Anna and I'm a member of Hoosier Action (https://www.hoosieraction.org/ a statewide community organization dedicated to building a better future for Indiana. We've also been working to stop SB 389 at the statehouse. On Tuesday, March 23 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., we are gathering on the statehouse lawn (in a socially-distant, masked-up fashion) for Reclaim our Future: Vigil & Call to Action for all Hoosiers (https://secure.everyaction.com/0Bhd7yMNxEuM9UmCvH8bzw2 a vigil and action to hold our legislators accountable to Hoosiers.

At the event, we will be inviting people to learn about environmental contamination in Indiana and the wetlands bill, as well as inviting them to write postcards to their legislator asking them to vote against SB 389 as it likely will advance out of the House Environmental Affairs Committee on to the House floor.

We'd love to see you there as we work to hold our legislators accountable to us and make them fully aware that we know that they are catering to the building industry over water quality, our state's ecosystems, and the health of Hoosiers by passing this bill. (There's also a virtual event happening at the time if you can't attend in person.)

Please register here: https://secure.everyaction.com/0Bhd7yMNxEuM9UmCvH8bzw2

Please consider supporting and attending the Hoosier Action Event, I will be attending and speaking at the virtual event!

Thank you!

Leo Berry
