Say no to the Blue Diamond quarry in Maracas Valley

Say no to the Blue Diamond quarry in Maracas Valley
The Issue
Blue Diamond Quarry Limited is proposing to burden the community of Maracas Valley with a new quarry! This is your chance to make your voice heard by saying yes to green hills, yes to preserving Trinidad & Tobago’s heritage, yes to clean water, and no to another quarry in the Maracas Valley.
The quarry operator has provided their assessment of the environmental impact of the quarry on the following website: https://sites.google.com/view/bdql-environ-impact-assessment/
This new quarry will be adjacent to the existing quarry operated by Coosal’s Construction Company Limited.
- It will require changing the route to the Caurita stone, which is of significance to the First People and the national community.
- It will mean a greater burden on the already overburdened single road leading into the valley.
- It will mean that Caurita’s residents will have to live with the impact of the noise and the vibrations from blasting on their homes and families.
- It also has not been clarified how the vibrations from blasting may affect the Caurita stone.
The Maracas Valley needs and deserves economic opportunities that do not compromise the community’s health, safety, environment, and history. Join us in saying a firm NO to the Blue Diamond quarry! NO NEW QUARRY in Maracas Valley!
