#endsewagepollution Thames
18 Feb 2021

Calling all Oxford wild swimmers, splashers, kayakers, and general river-going people!

Summer seems like a distant memory now, but the campaign to #endsewagepollution in the Thames is still active - and we need your help again!

Along with Oxford City Council, we're designing an application to DEFRA for a designated bathing water area* somewhere in the city.

However, we want the input and opinions of the people who use the rivers. What would you like from a bathing water area? Which area of the river should be designated (or should it be more than one?) And what facilities would you like to see (if any?)

The questionnaire should take 10 minutes, and can be found here https://bit.ly/3jSmPV6 Please share with your family, friends and neighbours!

We're also looking for volunteers to help us survey river usage in Summer 2021. If you would like to sign up for this, please do so at the end of the questionnaire.

Thank you for taking part, and for helping protect the river for generations to come.

This questionnaire has been prepared by the Iffley Fields Residents Association, with input from the #endsewagepollution Thames campaign and Oxford City Council Greenspaces team.

Thank you,

Claire and the #endsewagepollution mid-Thames team

*A designated bathing water area would mean the Environment Agency would carry out weekly water quality testing for harmful bacteria in the summer months. This will pressure Thames Water to reduce raw sewage discharges to the river. Raw sewage should never go into a river, let alone 1,300 times a year in the upper Thames (2019 data).
