Put Safety Before Greed and End the Lockout of UWUA Local 369 Workers
The Issue
For nearly a month, Louisiana-based Entergy Corp. has chosen to lock out nearly 250 members of UWUA Local 369 at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth, MA. . UWUA Local 369 has spent nearly two months negotiating with Entergy over key healthcare, safety and staffing issues and now their healthcare is set to expire on July 1st preventing these hard working men and women and their families from being able to afford the critical treatment that so many need.
Make no mistake, Entergy chose to keep trained members out of their plant and risk the safety of the community for only one reason: To boost their profits. A company that pays its CEO $108M over the last five years, and has a $100M air force of private jets, wants workers to pay more for healthcare and give up on safe staffing rules.
Entergy isn’t just playing hardball with its workforce. Entergy is also playing with the safety of hundreds of thousands families from Cohasset to Middleboro to Cape Cod. That’s because Pilgrim can only be run safely by professionals who know how to operate it.
It’s offensive and symptomatic of their greed that Entergy, a company that paid its CEO $18 million last year, more than 123 times the average income of a UWUA worker, is attacking members on salaries.
The workers at Pilgrim are not the only workers struggling to have their companies put safety first and greed last. All across the country, workers are battling exectuvies from stripping their benefits and slashing their salaries all so that they can fatten their own wallets.
We ask you to stand with us against Entergy and companies like them to demand that they put safety before greed. Don’t let the massive profits of a few Entergy executives come at the expense of the safety of local communities.
