NMC Nurses and Midwives condemmed
Jan 15, 2022

This latest blog   explores The draft Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) (Amendment) (Coronavirus) (No. 2) Regulations 2021 would place a requirement on health and social care workers who have face-to-face contact with service users, including volunteers, to provide evidence that they have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. They would need to do so in order to be deployed, though there would be exemptions for certain staff. The policy has been met with criticism by several medical bodies.

It raises many issues and shows many other knock on effects with staffing and patient safety as some units find numbers staff not getting vaccinated so either losing their jobs or being redeployed to other services.

One midwife explained very valid reasons for not having the vaccine and stated there were 34 on one midwifery unit and 37 total in her Trust who were the same. A passionate caring team from a range of different ages, cultural backgrounds and ethnicity and have different reasons for not having the vaccine. They do not want to be forced to have the vaccine as all have their own individual reasons to not

NMCWatch advocates and supports the vaccination program and will encourage all members to take the vaccine in order to protect patients, the public community
