This latest blog looks at some issues observed during a recent hearing. The registrant herself will be the first to admit that this hearing felt different to her original one and the panel seemed to be adopting the new approach. However it also bore some glaring similarities especially around evidence and admissibility.
Over the last two years there has been much talk and discussion from NMC seniors about how the culture is changing and they are determined to be "person centred" for everyone experiencing their FtP process whether referrers / relatives or the registrant.
Yet this recent case and many others we hear about tells a different story.
Is the civil standard in place just too open to interpretation and when the NMC have invested many months or years into continuing a process is there really little hope of it being anything but punitive?
We estimate that this case in particular has cost over £47,000 and that is only based on the what we know the panels and case presenters are paid but not accounting for additional expenses and outlays including back office staff, union representation costs etc.
£47,000 is equivalent to 392 nurses/midwives annual fees. 1 CASE!!!
