Ensure Safety on Blue Island's Kedzie Avenue Bridge: Call for Urgent Improvements
The Issue
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents and community members, are calling on the City of Blue Island to make urgent safety improvements to the Kedzie Avenue Bridge, where a tragic incident on August 19th of 2023 claimed the life of beloved son, brother, and community member, Reggie Wilson. The bridge's poor condition, lack of adequate lighting, and incomplete sidewalk present a serious hazard for pedestrians and drivers.
Our demands are as follows:
Install adequate street lighting to improve visibility at night.
Construct a full pedestrian sidewalk to ensure the safety of those walking.
Implement additional safety features such as reflective markers.
Consider lowering the speed limit or adding traffic-calming measures near the bridge.
These changes are essential to prevent future fatalities and to protect the well-being of all who use the bridge. We urge city officials to act promptly.
