The Issue

On August 24th, 2026, a heavy spell of rain hit Gurugram, causing severe waterlogging throughout the city. Thousands of children were stranded in school buses for hours on end, left tired, scared, hungry, thirsty, and highly vulnerable. As a concerned parent, I cannot bear the thought of our young ones being subjected to such a harrowing experience again.

These extreme weather conditions are becoming more frequent, and it is critical that the safety and well-being of children is prioritized during these times. The situation on that dreadful day exposes serious flaws in our current emergency response and school transportation systems, particularly during monsoon season.

The ordeal faced by the children highlighted several areas that need urgent attention and improvement by the concerned authorities:

1. **Emergency Protocols**: Current lack of effective communication between administration, schools, transportation operators, and parents increase panic and delays in response. Administration and all the other responsible authorities must have established emergency protocols that are acted upon swiftly to ensure children's safe return home.

2. **Infrastructure**: Improved infrastructure, particularly drainage systems on main school routes, is mandatory to prevent such extreme waterlogging. Also, why are the roads sinking everywhere leaving huge pits and holes..what was the preparedness of the authoroties when even the city roads were not in a good shape ? This is critical not only for the safe and smooth movement of not only school buses but also of residents, people who need medical care in hospitals on a daily basis , ambulances  , other emergency vehicles etc. during heavy rainfall.

3. Accountability: Identifying the authorities responsible for the lapses which cause such incidents and taking stringent action against the lackadiasical approach of those in charge.

4. Preventive Measures : What immediate steps shall be taken to prevent such incidents from happening again?

. **Driver Training and Equipment**: Drivers must be regularly trained in emergency response and equipped with necessary resources such as emergency phones, water, and basic first aid supplies for the children in their care.

It is within our collective power to implement these solutions to protect our children. Let’s not wait for another devastating incident to push us into action. By signing this petition, you can help urge the city authorities, school districts, and transport departments to come together and take immediate action to overhaul the safety measures for our children during the monsoon season.

Let us stand together to ensure the safety and well-being of every child in Gurugram. Please sign this petition and share it with your family, friends, and community members to build momentum for this crucial change.
