Ensure Safety and Accountability in Federally Funded Assisted Living Facilities

The Issue

I am writing this petition to address a pressing issue that has deeply affected my family and countless others across the country. My mother, who resides in an assisted living facility, has been subjected to verbal abuse and medical neglect, including malnutrition due to the staff's failure to follow her prescribed diet. Shockingly, despite multiple reports from aides confirming the abuse of residents by staff members, no action is being taken.

It is disheartening to witness our loved ones suffer in environments that are meant to provide care and support. This issue extends far beyond my personal experience; elder abuse has become alarmingly prevalent across federally funded assisted living facilities nationwide. The lack of security measures such as surveillance cameras allows these heinous acts to go unnoticed and unpunished.

Every individual deserves the right to be safe from abuse and neglect, regardless of their age or health condition. Families should have peace of mind knowing that their loved ones are receiving proper care in a secure environment. Therefore, I urge you all to join me in demanding a change by signing this petition.

Accordingly, we call upon federal authorities responsible for overseeing assisted living facilities:

1. Mandate the installation of security cameras in all federally funded assisted living facilities: By implementing surveillance systems throughout these facilities, we can deter potential abusers while providing concrete evidence when incidents occur.

2. Ensure strict adherence to privacy guidelines: While it is crucial for cameras to be installed for accountability purposes, it is equally important that privacy concerns are addressed appropriately during implementation.

3. Establish clear protocols for handling reported cases of elder abuse: It is imperative that federal regulations outline specific steps that must be taken when allegations arise so that investigations are conducted promptly and thoroughly.

4. Increase funding for training programs on elder abuse prevention: Staff members should receive comprehensive training on recognizing signs of abuse/neglect, reporting procedures, and the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment for residents.

By implementing these measures, we can create a safer environment for our elderly population and hold those who commit acts of abuse or neglect accountable for their actions. Together, we can ensure that federally funded assisted living facilities fulfill their duty to provide compassionate care while safeguarding the well-being of our loved ones.

Please sign this petition to support the implementation of security cameras in all federally funded assisted living facilities. Let us stand united in demanding safety, accountability, and justice for our vulnerable elders.

Thank you for your support!
