The Issue

Walkability and safety in our City affects us all. Here in Derby, KS, we're proud to be an active, thriving community. We cherish the ability to walk, bike, and engage in our lovely neighborhoods. However, recent developments have made it challenging for our children to safely navigate their way to and from school.

Due to extensive construction projects on K-15 and other areas around the City, Buckner Street has seen a significant increase in traffic. Large trucks heading to work sites coupled with regular daily drivers have made crossing Buckner a hazardous task.

Despite a posted speed limit of 40mph, drivers often exceed this, compromising the safety of our children.

This situation leaves our kids feeling unsafe and hesitant to cross the street. As parents, our concern grows daily. We are asking the city to take immediate action by either creating a safe passage—be it an overpass or an underpass—or funding bussing for children living in the Rosewood/Duckcreek/TallTree neighborhoods.

Ensuring their safety to & from school is not an option, it's a necessity.

By signing this petition, you will join in urging the city to make a public statement about the hazards of crossing Buckner, prioritize the safety of our community's children with action and retain the walkability of our neighborhoods.

Together, let's ensure that Derby remains a safe and wonderful place for our families.
