The Issue

The problems we face as women navigating the bustling city of Pune are many, but the recent experiences with ride-hailing services like Ola, Uber, and Rapido have turned everyday travel into a significant source of anxiety. We travel alone at times, only to be confronted with drivers who unceremoniously cancel rides or demand Rs 25 per kilometre is much higher than the fare displayed in the app, leaving us stranded and in distress. More worrying is the unprofessional behavior we encounter, where some drivers resort to threats if their excessive demands are not met.

These experiences are not isolated. They occur with alarming frequency, impacting not only me but countless other women in Pune. The promise of convenience and safety that led us to use these services in the first place has been broken. This situation not only affects our daily commutes but also makes us feel vulnerable and unsafe.

This unacceptable behavior forces a pressing need for accountability and reform within these ride-hailing companies. We demand that Ola, Uber, and Rapido take immediate action to ensure drivers adhere to the established fare structures and maintain professional conduct. It is time for these companies to implement stricter legal repercussions for drivers who violate these standards to restore trust and provide peace of mind to women riders.

Additionally, we urge the companies to enhance their app features, allowing passengers to report incidents swiftly and receive timely support. Implementing a robust rating and review system will help identify and address problematic drivers while rewarding those who consistently deliver safe and satisfying journeys.

As citizens of Pune committed to safety and equality, we implore the local authorities to support these changes. By collaborating with these companies, authorities can ensure that policies are enforced and stricter background checks are carried out, thus curbing these unwarranted demands and unsafe practices.

Transformation in the ride-hailing sector is essential to building a safer Pune for everyone, especially for women who rely on these services. Join us as we stand up for our rights to safe and fair transportation. Every signature counts in our quest for change. Please sign this petition to make our voices heard.
