Hello everyone. I am a student in Maranding, Lala, Lanao del Norte, and I know first-hand the struggles we face due to inadequate drainage systems in our area. Whenever heavy rains descend upon us, the streets transform into rivers, and life comes to a standstill. Unfortunately, this is not just about inconvenience. These flash floods and unclean sewer waters pose serious health risks, with diseases like Leptospirosis and Dengue becoming all too common.

Maranding needs better infrastructure to safeguard our community's health and well-being. Our drainage systems are old, inefficient, and far from capable of handling the heavy rainfalls that are becoming more frequent due to climate change. Scientific studies affirm that improving drainage systems significantly reduces flood risks and subsequently decreases the spread of water-borne diseases.

Several neighboring provinces have successfully upgraded their drainage infrastructure, which has led not only to improved public health but also to economic benefits as businesses can operate smoothly without flood disruptions. We can look to them as models and implement similar solutions to protect our community.

We urge the local government and relevant authorities to prioritize investing in modern, comprehensive drainage solutions. This includes expanding existing networks, using environmentally sustainable designs, and ensuring regular maintenance is carried out. By doing so, we can significantly mitigate the risks posed by floods and enhance the overall quality of life in Maranding.
