Ensure Proper Conditions and Care for Immigrants in Krome Detention Center

Ensure Proper Conditions and Care for Immigrants in Krome Detention Center
The Issue
KROME DETENTION CENTER AND OTHERS LIKE IT ARE THE CONCENTRATION CAMPS OF 2025!!
IMMIGRANTS, DOCUMENTED OR NOT, ARE HUMAN BEINGS AND DESERVE BASIC HUMAN NEEDS — FOOD, WATER, MEDICAL CARE!
As a registered nurse, I cannot ignore the human rights violations that are occurring at the Krome Detention Center, where immigrants are being denied basic needs like food, water, and healthcare. The Eighth Amendment protects inmates from cruel and unusual punishments, and neglecting these essentials in detention is exactly that.
The condition of detainees has been deteriorating. A growing collection of reports have clearly illustrated a pattern of inadequate care, undernourishment, and unattended medical needs, a violation of standards set forth by the American Civil Liberties Union. These detainees are facing conditions that threaten their well-being and their lives daily. There has already been the loss of life due to dehydration and starvation in addition to illness from unsanitary conditions.
The decision to respect human dignity should not be debated—it is ingrained in our Constitution and reflects our basic humanity. As such, those detained in such facilities are legally entitled to appropriate nourishment and medical care, regardless of their immigration status.
It is time for us to rise above division and indifference and prioritize justice and compassion as we strive to uphold our nation's constitution and values.
WE ARE DEMANDING THE FOLLOWING:
- The responsible authorities to take immediate action to improve the conditions in the Krome Detention Center.
- Ensure that EACH AND EVERY DETAINEE receive the proper food, water, and health care as stated in the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution.
- Permit a third-party medical team to enter the facility to evaluate each detainee’s health and provide necessary medical care.
Please sign this petition. Stand with us. Raise your voice for humanity.
