Unlike other animals, crustaceans often suffer through processes that are both painful and distressing to them. This issue not only raises ethical concerns but also tarnishes our nation’s commitment to humane animal treatment standards.

Several countries like Switzerland, New Zealand, and Norway have taken significant steps to ensure more humane practices towards crustaceans, including mandates for stunning these animals before killing them. It is time Canada follows suit by implementing stricter regulations that require more humane handling, storage, and killing processes for crustaceans.

Introducing new guidelines that align with scientific evidence will be a progressive step forward. Specific measures could include mandatory stunning before boiling, improving living conditions during their shipment, and training for workers on humane handling practices.
