The Issue

As a two-time California wildfire survivor due to PG&E negligence, I have endured the heart-wrenching experience of losing everything I held dear. For years, I have battled tirelessly to recover both emotionally and financially, but the journey to rightful compensation has been far from straightforward, marred by delays, confusion, and unfulfilled promises by the Fire Victims Trust.

The devastating wildfires that have plagued California in recent years have left thousands of us grappling with the loss of our homes, livelihoods, and, in some tragic cases, loved ones. The aftermath of such disasters is compounded by the struggle many survivors face in obtaining the compensation they’re owed—a situation stemming from the very companies responsible for our suffering.

The Fire Victims Trust, established to administer compensation to victims of wildfires started by the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), has not met the expectations of many survivors. While the Trust promised timely and sufficient compensation, many victims, including myself, have faced prolonged waits and received only a fraction of what was promised. According to reports, as of mid-2023, over 60% of wildfire victims have yet to receive their full settlements, causing significant financial and emotional stress.

It's imperative that the administrators of this trust rectify these delays and fulfill their pledges. We are calling for an immediate review of the processes within the Fire Victims Trust to ensure transparency, timeliness, and fairness. Furthermore, state legislators must hold PG&E accountable, overseeing that the funds promised are duly disbursed.

Californian legislators, community leaders, and advocates for justice must hear our plea. By joining together, we can prompt action to ensure that all wildfire survivors receive just compensation without further delay. Our resilience in face of devastation and determination to rebuild our lives must be matched by a commitment from those in power to support us in our recovery.

Please sign this petition to urge the Fire Victims Trust to reevaluate their processes and discharge full compensation to all affected parties immediately. Every signature counts in making a compelling case for justice and compensation for those who have already lost so much.
