Ensure Equal Coverage for Mental and Physical Health Insurance

The Issue

In Malaysia, mental health is as critical as physical health, yet insurance coverage for mental health care lags significantly. The 2015 National Health and Morbidity Survey reported 29.2% of adults face mental health issues, but many insurance policies offer limited or no coverage for these conditions, unlike physical health care. This gap leaves citizens, including trainees at the Malaysian Police Training Centre, without adequate support, exacerbating untreated conditions, stigma, and strain on emergency services.

We urge the Malaysian government to enact a parity law ensuring equal insurance coverage for mental and physical health care. This will reduce stigma, improve health outcomes, boost productivity, and lower long-term healthcare costs. Other nations have set a precedent—Malaysia can lead in Southeast Asia.

Sign this petition to advocate for equitable mental and physical health insurance coverage for a healthier, fairer Malaysia.
